Start with the position
A bromeliad is a clear shape among many small leaves. Choose somewhere its rosette can open without being pressed against the glass. Consider how neighbouring plants will grow around it.
Light that suits the plant
Neoregelia needs a bright position, but harsh, hot sun can damage leaves. Move it closer to a lamp gradually. Observe new growth and leaf colour over time rather than reacting to a single day’s changes.
Water in the cup, air around the roots
Tank-forming bromeliads hold water between their leaves. Use fresh, low-mineral water and refresh it regularly. Root media should drain; a water-filled rosette does not mean roots should remain wet.
Ask before choosing
Ask about the size and expected growth of the actual plant. A name alone does not tell you how much space its rosette occupies. Request a recent photo if colour or pattern is central to your choice.
